Iconic Spot Has Welcomed Customers Since 1927
Steiners Tavern is one of the oldest continuously operating businesses on the Sonoma Plaza. Founded by John Steiner, it dates back to the old Union Hotel at West Napa Street and Highway 12, where it first opened in 1927.
When the hotel was demolished to build the Bank of America building, Steiners moved to the historic Fitch Adobe Building that is now home to Valley Bar + Bottle. In 2000, Steiners moved to its current home on First Street West -- along with its classic swinging saloon doors and plethora of local memorabilia. Look long enough and you'll find a black-and-white photo of John Steiner and a few other surprises.
